Interesting Times

Trying to beat the Blogger Blues (léase, la depresión del Blogger), I decide to tackle the August editorial.

I must point out it´s not depression, but life that´s gotten in the way of our regular broadcast. Ninety-hour weeks, becoming a musical one-hit wonder (still in development) and a few other things off-line have kept my eyesights elsewhere; and before I knew it, August was on top of us.

In the UK, Banksy redefines ´art´, the Government redefines Big Brother with all their new controlling measures. All over the blogosphere, normal people redefine the relationship between the media and the receivers. Power to the people, we say! - Bloggers save the day, the Wikipedia (a common encyclopedia written by anyone who wants to contribute to it) grows larger, Wikinews lets you know what´s going on in the world without your usual filters of power-hungry, biased information enclaves, and the world is a better place for it.

I switch from the Cinema to Internet. Public TV in Spain offers absolutely nothing of any real value; Hollywood´s imagination has long ago dried up. I turn to Creative Commons movies for something a little more interesting; and through Public Domain movies for a look at the past and (sometimes) into the future.

Meanwhile, the world´s most powerful people are in the business of killing, governments become businesses, and the world chokes. All the meanwhile, telling us their version of the story, using all available channels of information to brainwash, cleanse and convince us of their absolute truths. Osama does it through home-made videos; Bush uses slightly higher-budget means.

Some people talk about the third World War already starting. Some use the Londond attacks as a starting date; some would point September 11 as the starting date.

Looking at the 21st Century, and the situation the world is in, makes me think of that old curse - ´may you live in interesting times´.

Welcome to our August edition.

Editorial.
